What is "Geocaching"?

Geocaching is simply searching for a hidden "cache" using a handheld GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver that has been place by another person (geocacher).  The person hiding the "treasure" records the latitude and longitude using a handheld GPS receiver. The position of the cache along with clues for finding it are posted on a web site (www.geocaching.com).  A person desiring to go searching for "cache" prints or downloading the caches in position and clue information from the web site.  Use their own GPSr the searcher finds the cache, signs the log book, trades items of "treasure" from cache, then returns it to the same position for the next person to find.  The finder then posts their find along with notes and pictures (if desired) on the web site. What is "Cruise Caching"?

Cruise Caching is simply geocaching while on a cruise.  A cruise ship typically visits 1 or more port for a few hours, or some times a couple of days.  When a cruise ship makes a "port call" this is a great opportunity to go ashore and find some geocaches.  Nearly every port visited by a cruise ship has a geocache somewhere nearby, and some ports have many.  GeoCaching from a cruise ship, or Cruise Caching, is a great way to create your own shore excursion. 

What are the benefits of joining a GeoCaching Cruises Group?

One way for cruises to obtain special cruise rates and receive special amenities is by blocking group space.  GeoCaching Cruises blocks group space or has access to other group space and specials which are then offered to GeoCachers.  Not only do you have money and received the special amenities available to the group, but you now have the opportunity to meet other GeoCachers who share the same interests, if you desire.  Booking a cruise with GeoCaching Cruises does not obligate you to "hang out" with the other geocachers on the cruise.  Opportunities to meet will be provided, but there is no required group activities.  But, who knows, maybe you'll meet some really neat people and make some life long friendships. 

Do I have to be a GeoCacher to book a cruise with GeoCaching Cruises? 

No, our group space is open anyone.  GeoCaching Cruises does not discriminate against Muggles.  Maybe you are the only GeoCacher in your family, or you have a small group from your own organization or a family group but don't have enough people to meet the minimum number of staterooms to required by the cruise line to qualify as a group.  By booking into our group space you would be reap the benefits of being part of a group.  Sort of a mini-group with our group.  This would also be great opportunity to introduce those non-geocachers in your groups or family to GeoCaching.

If I book a cruise with one of your groups, do I have to participate in group activities or go geocaching with the group, or can I do my own thing?

There is are not "forced fun" or required social events.  Opportunities will be provided to meet other GeoCachers and there maybe be special events or socializing opportunities, but there is not requirement to participate.  In fact, if you want to remain totally incognito that is okay.  However, cruising with a group of people who share a common interest and making new friends can really enhance the cruise vacation experience. 

What other benefits are there for booking a cruise with GeoCaching Cruises?

Everyone who books a cruise with GeoCaching Cruises will receive a special GeoCaching Cruises  gift package.  This package includes special GeoCaching Cruises travel bugs and other items (which will remain secret) designed to enhance your geocaching cruise experience. We will also provide each cruiser with information, recommendations, and advice about the caches at port the cruise ship visits.  This might include advice on transportation (walk, take a taxi, rent a jeep, etc...), which caches are "must see", caches that are very difficult, recommend watering holes along the way, etc...   Of course another might include reduced cruise rates, special amenities, and the opportunity to meet fellow geocachers and make new friends. 

Will I have an opportunity to meet other GeoCachers who are on the same cruise?

Yes, if you desire. A "meet and greet" social event will normally be scheduled the first afternoon or evening of the cruise.  Additionally, GeoCachers who have booked into one of our groups, or individually will normally be seated together for dinner, unless you request not be seated with others.  Depending the size of the group other GeoCaching Cruise exclusive events may also be scheduled at various times during the cruise. 

I want to arrange an exclusive group just for my organization, can you do that?

Absolutely!  We are experts at arranging group cruises.  We will work with you to arrange your own special group for a date and itinerary best for you.  Most cruise lines have a minimum stateroom requirement to qualify as a group and receive group amenities.  Give us a call and we can discuss it.

 Are your Singles Cruises comprised ONLY of GeoCachers?

No, there will most likely be other single non-geocachers (muggles) participating the singles cruises This will afford geocachers the opportunity to introduce new found friends to the sport/hobby of geocaching.  

Who coordinates and leads all the Singles Cruises special events?

SingleCruises.com coordinates and leads all of the onboard singles events.  Single Cruises.com are experts in arranging "ice breakers" and events for members of their group.  GeoCachers will be part of the overall Single Cruises group.  All GeoCachers participating in the Singles Cruise will be notified of who each other is before the cruise and given opportunities to meet during the cruise. 

Does the cruise fare include Travel Insurance?

Generally it does not, but can be purchased separately.  Travel Insurance is HIGHLY recommended.  Travel Insurance can be obtained for a nominal fee.  At the time of booking GeoCaching Cruises will provide the opportunity to purchase travel insurance through our prefer vendor, Travel Guard, or through the cruise line.  Cruiser can also decline travel insurance if they desire.  GeoCaching Cruise will require a form be signed stating that travel insurance was offered but is being declined.  

What about airline arrangements to/from the cruise ports?

GeoCaching Cruise can obtain an air add on through the cruise line if desired.  We do not book airline travel if not obtained through the cruise line.  We highly recommend booking your air travel through the cruise line.  Air arrangement with the cruise line generally also include transfers to and from the airport to the cruise ship terminals.  The cruise line will also help with arrangements to "catch up" with the ship if your flight is delayed and you miss the sailing.  Additionally, if the ship is delayed returning to port or has to alter its itinerary they will assist with rescheduling a return flight.  If you have made your own flight arrangements, you much reschedule you own flights.  This is another good reason to have travel insurance.
